Inside the BarkCollar, a built-in sensor is triggered as soon as your dog starts barking. Following a brief three-second "bark-forgiveness" period, the collar becomes active and administers either a gentle vibration or an electronic stimulation. It is crucial to adjust the vibration or stimulation level to a point where it simply distracts your dog from barking. Should the barking persist, the intensity of the vibration or stimulation gradually escalates from the minimum to the maximum level. As your dog connects the act of barking with the sensation of vibration or stimulation, they will also come to realize that the sensation ceases when they stop barking.
To ensure proper functionality, position the collar strap on the narrowest section of your dog's neck, right beneath their ears. It should fit snugly, allowing the contact posts to make direct contact with the center of their neck. By doing so, the collar can accurately detect the vibrations caused by your dog's barking. Remember, if the collar is placed too loosely or away from the center of the neck, it may fail to detect the barking.
The lifespan of the battery relies on both the usage frequency and the barking habits of your dog. If the collar is worn for extended periods and triggered frequently, it will require more frequent recharging compared to a collar worn for shorter durations and triggered infrequently. Generally, a single charge can last for a month or even longer when the collar is worn daily with low to moderate activation.
Typically, the rechargeable battery has a lifespan of several years. However, it is necessary to replace the battery once the duration of a full charge noticeably diminishes. You can find replacement batteries conveniently from DogWatch. The process of replacing the battery is straightforward and hassle-free.
If there is no need to have the collar on your dog, then it should be removed and turned off. We recommend taking it off at night to avoid skin irritation.
The speed at which your dog's behavior transforms is influenced by various factors. The primary ones include your dog's personality, the frequency of triggers that lead to barking, and their ability to remain focused amidst distractions. Typically, after experiencing multiple collar activations, most dogs begin to comprehend the correlation between barking and the sensations caused by vibrations or stimulations. While some dogs may exhibit a rapid decrease in barking behavior, others may progress more gradually. If you don't observe any noticeable changes within a reasonable trial period, ensure that the collar fits properly and that the contact posts are the correct size. If the collar fit is appropriate and your dog continues to bark, consider increasing the BarkCollar setting by one level.
Turn the BarkCollar on. If the Status Light blinks green, the battery is charged and the collar is working. There is also the auto “self-test” (see below) to confirm it’s working.
The collar has an automatic "self-test" feature. Once you switch it on or adjust the settings, the BarkCollar will briefly vibrate and the status light will illuminate. This self-test ensures that the BarkCollar is both charged and functioning correctly.
The collar should work on dogs as small as 4 pounds.
It’s recommended to wait until your dog is 4-6 months old.
No, electronic stimulation is mild. It can be likened to a gentle tickle or a light static sensation, such as touching a doorknob after walking on carpet in socks. The purpose of the stimulation is to capture a pet's attention, much like a gentle tap on the shoulder.
No, the collar has to be in contact with the dog’s neck to activate. It activates in response to vibrations and not sounds.

There are no explicit health limitations associated with using a bark collar. However, if you have any concerns regarding your dog's health condition and the use of a bark collar, we recommend reaching out to your veterinarian for further guidance and assistance.
We recommend short posts for short-haired dogs who don’t have thick coats and long posts for dogs with thick coats or long hair.
The BarkCollar is designed to function within a temperature range of -25°F to 125°F. However, it's important to note that sudden and drastic changes in temperature may temporarily affect certain functions of the BarkCollar until the device adapts to the new temperature level.
